Our Mission The mission of the Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter is to provide loving care and sanctuary to animals, encourage adoptions and reunions, and promote respect, responsibility, and compassion for all animals. About Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter The Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, formed in 1993. Since our inception, we have gained a reputation in Southeast Michigan for our high-quality care and compassion. During their stay with the Friends, which can sometimes extend to over a year, animals are given more than shelter; they are given a home. An extended stay is not uncommon because we believe all animals deserve a chance to find a forever family---no matter how long it takes. In 2008, for the ninth straight year, we saved 100% of our adoptable animals.
